Jeju National University announced on June 30 that it has signed an agreement with the Polytechnic University of Catalonia (UPC), one of Spain’s leading engineering-focused universities, to expand cooperation in education, research, innovation, and international collaboration.

Under the agreement, the two universities will promote exchanges of undergraduate and graduate students, faculty members, staff, and researchers; conduct joint research and academic activities; develop joint educational programs and short-term language and cultural exchange programs; and co-host seminars, workshops, and conferences.

The partnership will also expand to include the exchange of academic information and research materials, collaboration on international research and innovation programs, and the development of joint projects in areas of mutual interest.

In particular, the Green Hydrogen Glocal Leading Research Center, Jeju National University (RLRC) and the Hydrogen Research Center (CER-H2) of the Polytechnic University of Catalonia signed a separate memorandum of understanding to strengthen research collaboration in green hydrogen production, storage, utilization, and renewable energy integration.

The Hydrogen Research Center at UPC operates the Hydrogen Research Laboratory (H2LAB), a hydrogen pilot plant, and 11 research groups involving more than 50 researchers. Its major research areas include green hydrogen production, storage, and transportation using renewable energy; industrial and transportation applications of hydrogen; and hydrogen-energy system integration.

Through this agreement, Jeju National University expects to promote international collaborative research in sustainable energy and climate technologies, with practical cooperation in hydrogen and renewable energy research expected to begin first.

The signing ceremony was held on June 25 at the Barcelona East School of Engineering, affiliated with the Polytechnic University of Catalonia.
