Jeju National University Hosts the 3rd Green Hydrogen Glocal CEO Special Lecture: Discussing the Future of the Wind Power Industry and Talent Development Strategies (Press Release, 2026.05.30.)

[Lecturer News = Reporter Min Han] Jeju National University invited CEO Yonghyuk Bu of Winditech Co., Ltd. to deliver the “3rd Green Hydrogen Glocal CEO Special Lecture” on May 22 at the auditorium of Engineering Building 1.


The lecture was jointly organized by the Green Hydrogen Glocal Leading Research Center, Jeju National University (RLRC, Director Sangjae Kim), the BK21 Jeju Energy New Industry Education and Research Group (Director Youngsun Mok), and the Research Institute for New Energy Industry, Jeju National University (RINEI, Director Sangjae Kim). More than 60 participants, including faculty members and graduate students, attended the event.


During the lecture, CEO Bu presented on the topic “Current Status of the Korean Wind Power Industry and Introduction to Winditech Co., Ltd.” He discussed the current development of Korea’s wind energy industry and its future prospects. According to CEO Bu, Korea’s cumulative installed wind power capacity currently stands at approximately 2.8 GW, but under the government’s 11th Basic Plan for Electricity Supply and Demand, it is expected to increase to 14.6 GW by 2030 and 24.3 GW by 2035. He particularly emphasized that significant industry growth centered on offshore wind power is expected to begin around 2028–2029.


Founded in Jeju in 2016, Winditech Co., Ltd. is an independent service provider (ISP) specializing in wind energy. The company offers a wide range of technical services, including wind turbine blade maintenance, Owner’s Engineer services, precision blade inspections using autonomous drones, and offshore wind support services.


Notably, the company is the only Korean firm officially registered as a partner of global wind turbine manufacturers operating in Korea, including Siemens Gamesa, Vestas, and Enercon. It has also demonstrated international competitiveness by conducting drone-based blade inspections for approximately 700–800 turbines annually in the Japanese market.


During the Q&A session following the lecture, discussions focused on workforce demand in the offshore wind maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) sector and the direction of related educational programs. CEO Bu emphasized that demand for specialized maintenance personnel is expected to increase significantly as the offshore wind industry expands and highlighted the importance of establishing field-oriented technical workforce training systems.


A representative of Jeju National University stated, “This special lecture provided students with valuable insights into real industrial experiences and technological trends, enhancing their practical understanding while strengthening the foundation for cultivating professionals in the green hydrogen and renewable energy sectors.”
